In this final session of the Let’s Talk Knowledge Engineering series, Ben Taylor, Rainbird CTO and co-founder, brings together the themes covered across the previous four webinars and shows what knowledge engineering looks like in practice.
Using a Know Your Customer example, Ben walks through how a real decision problem can be approached inside Rainbird Studio. The session follows the process from identifying the decision that needs to be modelled, through to eliciting knowledge from source documentation, generating a starting knowledge graph, reviewing concepts and relationships, adding and refining logic, testing outcomes, and exploring the evidence behind each decision.
The example focuses on a mocked KYC onboarding process, showing how documentation such as operating procedures and analyst training materials can be used as a source of knowledge. Ben demonstrates how Rainbird’s Generate from Docs capability can create an initial model, which can then be inspected, tested and improved by a Knowledge Engineer or subject matter expert.
The session also explores why this approach matters in regulated and high-risk environments. Rather than relying on an LLM to make a decision, Rainbird uses structured knowledge and deterministic reasoning to produce consistent outcomes with an evidence trail that can be reviewed and challenged.

What you’ll learn
- How knowledge engineering moves from theory into practical model building.
- How to start with a decision and identify the knowledge needed to support it.
- How source documentation can be used to elicit concepts, relationships and rules.
- How Rainbird Studio can generate a starting knowledge graph from documents.
- How Knowledge Engineers inspect, test and refine a model.
- How evidence trees explain why a decision was reached.
- How natural language queries can be grounded in a structured knowledge model.
- How Rainbird can be used in wider deployment patterns, including APIs, workflows, batch processing and agentic systems.
